Mount Zion is a Protestant church in the mainline tradition. It has been a part of this community since 1755, when German settlers originally organized the congregation. We are a part of the United Church of Christ, which came into being in 1957 with the union of two Protestant denominations, the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches. Each of these was, in turn, the result of a union of two earlier denominations.
Our church includes people of all ages and backgrounds, and theological perspectives. As individual members, we are free to believe and act in accordance with our understanding of God's will for our lives. The preamble to our constitution states: "The United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole head, Jesus Christ, Son of God and Saviour. It acknowledges as kindred in Christ all who share in this confession...it recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion."
In addition to a traditional worship service, for which a nursery is provided, we offer Sunday School classes for all age groups, an active youth program (under the leadership of a Youth Director) for grades K through 12, a Preschool program for ages 2 through 4, Cub and Boy Scouting programs, a very active program for Senior Citizens, and many other special educational and fellowship programs for children, adults and families. We also participate with other churches in our community and are involved in many outreach opportunities, such as Main Street Mission, Meals on Wheels, and the Children's Wellness Program.
Please feel free to browse through our website for further information. If you have any questions, you may contact the church at 704-857-1169.
